Pet skin is sensitive and reacts quickly to environmental factors. Dog and cat skin problems are one of the most common reasons why pets feel discomfort, start scratching, licking paws, or become irritable.
Most common symptoms
Recognizing skin problems is not difficult if you regularly monitor your pet. The most common signs are:
- Skin redness and inflammation
- Constant itching and scratching
- Unpleasant odor from fur or certain areas
- Scaling and dry skin
- Hair loss (alopecia)
- Small wounds or weeping areas
Causes
One common cause is dermatitis, which can occur due to allergies, dirt, moisture, or poor hygiene. Yeast infection is also frequent – a fungal skin problem that often affects paws, skin folds, or the ear area.
Early recognition of the problem allows to avoid more serious complications and expensive treatment.
Untreated skin inflammation can progress. If you notice any of these symptoms, it is recommended to consult a veterinarian and review your pet's daily hygiene routine.
